July 2010 Picnic Notice

Rocky Mountain CFIDS/FMS Association
July 14, 2010

Greetings!

With regret, due to the expected high temperatures on Saturday, and several who wanted to come to the picnic feeling like the heat would be hard on our health conditions and/or force them to not come, RMCFA has decided to cancel the Potluck Picnic previously scheduled for Saturday, July 17.

We hope to reschedule the picnic at another time, perhaps in September since August temperatures may well be as hot as now.

  • Always remember to check the web site (www.rmcfa.org) or phone line (303-4-CFS-FMS or 303-423-7367) for the most up-to-date information about planned events ...

Greetings!

Please join us for a Potluck Picnic on Saturday, July 17th, from 1-3 pm at National Jewish Health.  RMCFA provides meats (e.g., chicken, meatloaf, etc) as well as water, ice, plasticware, and paper goods (cups, napkins, etc.).  We ask you to bring a "potluck" side dish, salad, dessert, etc. -- and bring your own beverage if you want something other than water to drink.

Find us on the covered patio at National Jewish Health, outside and behind our usual meeting room.  Walk past the right side of the clinic building.  After you pass underneath the covered walkway between the clinic building and the conference center, continue about 80 feet, and turn to the left to find the covered patio.  It's cool even on hot days, and will provide shelter if we happen to have rain that day.  Plenty of chairs and tables are available.

Other RMCFA notes ...

  • Over the last couple of years we've transitioned from near-monthly events to quarterly events.  Although the picnic was announced at the April 17 meeting, and has been announced on our web site and phone message line for many weeks, we apologize for any who didn't know about the picnic now.
  • Always remember the web site (www.rmcfa.org) and phone line (303-4-CFS-FMS or 303-423-7367) usually indicate our next upcoming event fairly soon after the last event has passed.
  • Though delayed in its implementation, the intent to gather sharable phone numbers and/or e-mail address to enable group members to contact each other has not been forgotten.  We still hope to provide a way for a wider group of people to be able to connect with others in the group, and expect to further pursue that goal as the year progresses.
  • RMCFA's last newsletter was the April 2010 edition (www.rmcfa.org/2010_04_April_Newsletter.html).  FYI, we don't expect to publish a newsletter this summer.

A bit of News ...

A noteworthy guideline has emerged related to XMRV and CFS.  U.S. Government agencies (and broader global parties) are only slowly sorting out the extent of any possible association between XMRV and CFS.  In the mean time, CFS patients are asked not to donate blood or blood products.  For more information, see www.aabb.org/pressroom/Pages/cfsrecommendation.aspx.  (For further reading, an extensive list of XMRV related articles is available at www.cfids.org/xmrv#info, including several dated June 18-21 which are related to the blood donation guideline.  Also, Cort Johnson provides an extensive XMRV timeline you might want to skim; see www.aboutmecfs.org/Rsrch/XMRVBuzz.aspx.)

(RMCFA does not intend to focus on CFS to the exclusion of Fibromyalgia.  No significant recent news about Fibromyalgia has been brought to our attention.)
