About the Speakers


Steven Croft, MD, is a pain management specialist at Arthritis Associates of South Florida and treats many patients with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. In January 2007 he gave a presentation on pain management at the IACFS conference in Ft. Lauderdale that was highly regarded by both patients and clinicians, and he will present some of the same practical, patient-oriented information at this seminar. Dr. Croft has served terms as president of the Florida Society of Rheumatology and as chief of staff at West Boca Medical Center.

K. Kimberly McCleary is president and CEO of the CFIDS Association of America. For the past 16 years, she has directed the Association’s education, public policy and research programs. Kim is actively involved in efforts to secure a eaningful, effective response from the federal government to CFS. She will lead a brief session on the national CFS public awareness campaign, which is a joint project of the CFIDS Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Suzanne Vernon, PhD, directs the CDC’s Molecular Epidemiology Program, which seeks to characterize CFS at a systems biology level and ultimately lead to the discovery of a biomarker, development of a diagnostic assay and an understanding of the pathogenesis of CFS. In 2006 Dr. Vernon coordinated a unique collaboration between CDC scientists and experts in various fields of science and medicine. The research found genetic consistencies among CFS patients, showing a clear biologic basis for CFS.
